does anybody have already any experience with the CRS312 fan noise? Is this silent enough to be used in a normal office environment under light load or is this loud enough that it must be in a rack?
The CRS309 filled with S+RJ10s should be totally silent as the CRS309 does not have any fan, but the CRS312 is actually cheaper than a CRS309 filled with S+RJ10s.
Note that S+RJ10 in particular runs very hot, so you both shouldn’t use it in all SFP slots in a switch, and avoid using them in fanless switches generally.
See here https://mikrotik.com/product/s_rj10 (" S+RJ10 module is supported also on devices with passive cooling, but may require an extra cooling")
and big article here. https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/S%2BRJ10_general_guidance
I presume you do want specifically 10Gb RJ45 with at least 8 ports - so the CRS312 would definitely be the safer choice.
It’s a new enough model (can you even find it in stock yet?) that I can’t find photos of the internals in a 30 second google search, but worst case you probably would be able to open the case and replace the fans with aftermarket quiet ones from the likes of Noctua or Blacksilent, as it’s commonly done to other MT products…
