CRS317-1G-16S+RM

The new 10G switches look interesting, until I read that they have only 16 Megabytes of flash. I really like the partitioning feature. It’s useful. But this new trend of starving the device of flash is really a turn-off; it makes partitioning useless.

I can understand trying to cut costs on a low end $30 access-point. But I think it’s a poor strategy on the higher end devices. I won’t notice a difference between a $435 switch and a $430 switch. But I do notice a difference between a switch with 128MB of flash and one with 16MB. I don’t buy the latter.

I don’t see the differences between them,

CRS317-1G-16S+RM is the new Cloud Router Switch 317-1G-16S+RM—rack-mountable manageable 10G switch with Layer3 features, equipped with 16 SFP+ ports for high performance 10GbE connectivity and a 1GbE copper port for management. For the detailed info about the compatible optics for CRS317-1G-16S+RM, you can read this article.

Seems confusing to me as well.

Add on top of that that it’s dual boot and has a version of SwOS in that 16MB as well!

Must be some non disclosure reason? or else I’ll just keep replaying the Gods Must be Crazy 1 2 and 3!

But then again a 16 port SFP+ switch with RJ45 10GBe $85 adapters coming soon, I’ll not complain too much.

Got the new unit for our suppler, at the boot all leds blink for a second. Problem is that port 15 and 16 don’t blink. Is this normal?

Edit: just connected him to 326-24G-2S+ via direct attach cable, ports 15 and 16 work with no problem, led too.

I need at least 128MB storage to use them as routers (3 or 4 partitions). But the current CRS are too slow at that for me anyway.
