CRS317 running hot

Hi,

Just got a new CRS317, did the firmware update to 6.48.4 (stable), nothing is connected to the switch except for management eth.

the switch is already running hot.. CPU is at 74C.

cpu-temperature: 74C
       psu1-state: ok
       psu2-state: fail
       fan1-speed: 7830RPM
       fan2-speed: 7620RPM

Is this normal ?

I saw others on this forum running coller than this.

What can I check in the event that this is not normal ?

Thanks

74°C is quite HOT …

Question 1 :
How many and what kind of SFP+ interfaces are you using ?
If you have any Module with onboard Temp-Monitoring , how HOT are they ?

Question 2:
Where is your Router?
In the middle of the sahara desert facing the sun? =)

Thats just it, nothing is connected to the sfp ports yet and its my office righr now… at 23C room temperature.

I did a full config reset and its lile that out of the box.

Also took a look qnd the cpu is completely idle at 0-1%

Try to Update / downgrade to the Long-term release.
It may be a BUG in the 6.48.4 (stable)

My CRS317 with ambient temp at 25C and running 6.48.4 (with updated firmware) has a cpu temp of 47C and overall temp of 51C. This includes one 10GbaseT copper adapter and 9 SFP+ DACs. The CPU is between 2-3% utilization. My fans never run (except on reboot of course)

I have a feeling that something was knocked loose during shipping.

Did a downgrade to 6.47.10(long-term) and nothing changed.. its even worst now.. i’m getting 79C temps.

Could the heatsink compound be missing ? because the heatsink fins in the back are dead cold. i’m not sure that heat is getting through.

Any more ideas that I could test ?

Thanks guys

Thanks, that was the problem. I opened the case and the heatsink was loose on the chip.. all 4 screws were not screwed in.
Now the ARM chips runs at 34C, no fans, and the back heatsink is getting warmer !

That did the trick !
