Just got the CRS318-16P-2S+OUT.. Wondering how to extract maximum performance. I’m looking at the Xena networks testing and it says that using routeros bridge mode with fast path is actually slower than routing via the CPU by a hair. Is this true and performance will be this limited in routeros? Do I have to run SwOS to get maximum performance?
In the brocher I see switching test results on RouterOS v6.45.7 at the expected speeds. So which is true and is there anything I have to do to get this performance in routeros?
Depends how the unit gets configured. If it’s configured as a switch with all functions HW offloaded, you need to look at “Switching results”. If it’s configured as switch, but with enabled some functionality which can not be HW offloaded (such as bridge filters), then look at “Ethernet test results - Bridging”. If the unit is configured as a router (doing L3 stuff), then look at “Ethernet test results - Routing”.
Yup, essentially CRSxxx devices are switches. Period.
I’ll be using this as an access switch. No routing. Prefer winbox/romon for management. No bridge filters except vlan filtering, ideally just the bridge with all the ports added, vlans, and pvid set and tagged/untagged vlans.
