Right now in my event rack I have my core pretty much set up.. (2) ccr2116 (1) CRS326-24S+ (1) RB5009(DHCP-ONLY) and (1) css610.
It will eventually have around (10) 10 gig links set up but right now it doesnt, it is just sitting there on with just the equipment in the small 6U rolling rack. But it gets pretty hot and get zabbix alerts a lot. Should I be concerned.. in the documentation it says that it has been tested at 60C but ive hit that a bunch and nothing is even going on right now.
Ill upload some pictures to show how it looks and also some snap shots of the temperature
as @liviu2004 already hinted: make sure that the back of rack allows exit of hot air … if rack is closed at the back, then no amount of fans can help, hot air is still trapped inside the rack
“Operating temperature” in product brochure (specifying range of -20°C..+60°C) refers to environment temperature, not to temperature of internal parts. For example: many SFP modules specify “environment temperature” up to 80°C … which refers to what ROS shows under “sfp temperature” …
So IMO temperatures shown currently are nothing to worry about (the previous bullet applies never the less)
The temps are about right, well within margin. I had two CSS326 (not exactly the same, I know) that used to run at about this temps. Maybe a little hotter - but they were in Rio de Janeiro, so…
These are passive cooled, an the Tjunction is quite high. Don’t worry, all is well. And as others pointed out, the operating temps at the site are ambient temperature, not device temperature. I usually saw a delta of about 30C in temperature, from ambient to device.
More space between units and between units and walls of enclosure and air circulating through, its not complicated.
Furthermore, look at at a portable air conditioner unit for the ambient air if you have no control over the room.
Electronics like cool but also DRY air.
