CRS328-24P-4S+RM wirespeed switching?

Hi all,

I’m having a little trouble digesting the test results here: https://mikrotik.com/product/crs328_24p_4s_rm#fndtn-testresults

Why does Non blocking Layer 2 capacity decrease with smaller frame size? That does not sound like wirespeed. I would expect 128000 accross the board.

Are you refering to the part where this switch is (ab)used as router?

No pure switching. When I compare to FS switches they quote similar spec’s in terms of kpps and switching capacity so I began to wonder whether they are quoting L1 of L2. I always assumed L2 as we are talking switches here.

L2 comes with its own overhead (ethernet frame headers and whatnot) and inter-frame gaps … which take up relatively larger proportion of total capacity with smaller frame sizes (payload) compared to using larger frame sizes.

After all, that 1Gbps speed is L1 speed…
