Hello,
I’ve looked at the S+RJ10 guidelines (which is 2.7W and for SFP+ switches), however I need some general information for SFP28 on the CRS518-16XS-2XQ-RM
I’m assuming this switch was designed to handle slightly hotter SFP28 modules compared to SFP+ only switches
How many watts per module is reasonable? for example, could you load 16x <1.8W modules such as the FS.com SFP-10G-T100?
Or do you really need to stay more around 1.25W / module?
Thanks!
From HW spec page
Max power consumption 95 W
Max power consumption without attachments 45 W
So you have total 50W available to you including USB power (5W) , so 45W.
That is what PCB power delivery is designed to handle in given temperature range.
Note that you need to 2x your module power numbers, as it turns on some of the boards parts also, i have seen 6W increase from S+RJ10 module on my power meter.
Thanks for the response, from a thermal perspective is it really reasonable to fully populate this thing with 30W of 1.5-1.8W modules? all Copper 10GBASE-T and ZR+ for example?
30W is a lot of heat, I just don’t have experience to know how this would behave on this switch
