CRS520-4XS-16XQ Kernel Failure during Upgrade to ROS 7.21

I am unable to upgrade this CRS520 switch to ROS version 7.21 from 7.20.4

When I try, I get “Kernel Failure in Previous Boot” messages in the log.

I also had a random “Kernel Failure” just now, when attempting to make a minor configuration change. (interface mtu)

Note, I was able to upgrade this switches sibling (same Firmware type, Routerboot versions, etc) just fine.

Please advise.

firmware-type: al64B

factory-firmware: 7.16.1

current-firmware: 7.16.1

upgrade-firmware: 7.20.4

/system/routerboard/upgrade first.

I’ll try that again tonight.

Support said there a bug with vlan filtering on bridge AND the original threads for this release (and 7.20.7 and 7.22) show problems.

I think It's better to stay on 7.20.6 or earlier

I’ve tried upgrading the routerboard firmware first, and the upgrade to 7.21 still did not take.

There’s 3 entries in the log:

  • A log entry showing I initiated a reboot
  • A “failed to reboot gracefully” entry
  • A “kernel failure in previous boot” entry

Suggestions?

Stay with the version you have if all seems to work.

If in same devices work correctly, use netinstall for be sure that is not any internal problem, after external backup.

But do not restore the backup, you restore also the problem. Use the /export show-sensitive file=myback to create the export file and use that file later to configure back the netinstalled device.
