Does anyone have experience with connect x7 nics and the crs812? I’m looking to see the right way to get 400gb with either dac cables or transceivers - the connect x-7 uses 100gb pam4. So does the crs812 support this?
or do I need to get transceivers with gearboxes to convert 8 lanes of 50gb pam4 to 4 lanes of 100gb?
I emailed support ands did some more digging. To connect the crs812 to a connect x7 one would need to use either fiber or an aoc:
For fiber, you’d need a qsfp-dd to st4 (or vr4/dr4) transceiver - this converts 56gb x 8 to 112gb x4 - then a qsfp transceiver on the nic side. Around $1000 total per connection for the two receivers, per nic
There is a specialized aoc that would work but it’s expensive - from fiber mall QDD-OSFP-FLT-AEC50CM 0.5m (1.6ft) 400G QSFP-DD to OSFP Flat Top PAM4 Active Electrical Copper Cable - $1200 for a short 0.5m cable ands $1700 for a 3m cable
