HI,
just updated my LAN to allow 10GBe
trying to work out what speeds I can expect & where issues might be.
for ref. out of the box the CSS610-8G-2S+IN did not work AT ALL with the SFP+ ports, firmware update & all OK.
New 10Gtek networks cards & TP-Link 24 port, all with SFP+ ports. TP-Link SFP+ 24 port managed switch.
Frustratingly adding all this 10GBe has actually slowed my existing connection to a PC. it currently still has a 1GB nic card but as below the infrastructure improvement would have expected the same if not tiny bit better.
I use the Lanspeed (totusoft) but files transfers & timings imply accurate.
Fast PC’s both with SSD
Old system
PC1 >> 1GB switch >>>>>> 80m Cat5e >>> 8 port 1 GB Switch >> PC 2 : both PC’s 1 GB nic’s
450 Mbps write speed, 730 Mbps read (is M Bits, not M Bytes)
PC1 (10GBe nic) >> 10GB sfp+ switch >>>>>> 80m fibre >>> 8 port 10 GB CSS610 >> PC 2 (1GB nic) : 2nd PC is still old 1GB nic
300 Mbps write speed, 730 Mbps read (is M Bits, not M Bytes)
To be honest I suspect the NIC cards, pretty sure got the latest intel drivers but as above little cautious about the MikroTik as per firmware above.
I have another PC that once fully set up will take the place of PC2
This has the same 10Gtek nic 10GBe and testing about but direct into the main (TP Link) switch I do get
700 Mbps & 1040 Mbps, so as I type think it does rule out the Mikrotick
I would have thought 2000+Mbps at least.
Either way would be grateful for any advise especially if there a good way to test the speeds between the devices & not relying on perhaps any slowing of the PC’s even though SSD’s.
Thanks I/A
