I am having a suspicious issue with Wireless Registration client status. I have 40 2.4ghz AP’s set up. I have noticed that when I go into wireless registration, there are two MAC addresses connected to my AP with around -65 to -75 signals but 11/1mbps rates. When I double click on the MAC Address and go to the AP client I notice the Last IP of the client is 255.255.255.255. I have about 15 AP’s doing this exact same thing. I know they can’t have any throughput but what is connect to my AP’s.
Do you recognize the MAC’s as belonging to a valid customer of yours?
That IP is an “all nets” broadcast IP, but only MT could tell you if the router really received a packet with that IP in it, or if you’re looking at an entry where the IP defaulted to -1 as an uninitilized value. Maybe the link is up, but the customer has yet to actually send IP traffic to you and you’re looking at a bogus address.
If you recognize the MAC’s give the customers a call and ask them what kind of applications they’re running and what they’re using as a router for the uplink. If you don’t recognize them, consider locking them out through the registration table and waiting to see if some customer calls in.
