The ddns built into MT is the true rfc 2136 dynamic dns, but not a single provider supports this. You need to have your own dns infrastructure to use this style of ddns updates, that is why our dynamic dns services are more popular these days.
true, but they all use some closed source software for updating, so what can we do …
Our open specifications are here:
http://www.changeip.com/clients.asp#Specs
Almost all ddns providers stick to these standards. We support routers and devices from dlink, netgeat, linksys, smc, vigor, sony, (hopefully MT natively soon), etc. We use the rfc2136 process on the backend after checking authentication and settings on the front end. rfc2136 is too hard for most people to understand, they don’t know what a tsig record is or how to secure the zone against unauthorized updates, this is why we provide ddns services to over hundreds of thousands of customers.
If the MT router could get/post a URL it could be done natively. Right now we are having the MT send an email and we then take it apart and process it on our side. If the MT router could call: http://nic.changeip.com/*1 with basic authentication (or digest authentication) it would update our systems natively. Food for thought.

thanks
we were just looking at dyndns. change ip will also be considered then.
Excellent. DynDNS is a good company although they charge much more for the same service ($30US compared to $6US). Let us know if you need any integration help. We will also provide free support for all end users with MT using our ddns services.

can we get an account so we can test ? this will make implementation easy
I’m just curious how did this become a mikrotik thread? BTW am I the only one that has any suggestions for The Dude? Isn’t anybody interested in this software at all? I think it has alot of potential and will most likely have a reasonable price tag on it unlike some of the software out there and interested in seeing this software in it’s final form.
Now for a Problem Report: Software has problems resolving device names I have a few lan scanning type software that can scan computer names and such but The Dude has only been able to scan computer name of a single computer on the entire network and none of the devices except the mikrotik ones.
i split the topic now. re-post your question abut the DUDE in the appropriate forum please
Yes, I just sent an account email to Support@Mikrotik.com. I will have it also send the username / password to your support email if thats okay. I will also followup with some details that will help implementation.
