RB2011-RM running super, upgraded to 5.24 and it died.
It was running 5.23 with latest routerboard firmware, perfectly.
Died as:
a) just blue led powers-up
b) no console output (using a cisco cable to my serial port, no output in any speed 9600 to 115200)
c) LCD is off
d) when I connect an eth cable, it lights up on the ports 1-6 only
New RB2011 with FW 5.22 updated to 5.24 + firmware update after and router failed, reboot fixed it.
Mikrotik is since RB800 piece of crap hardware and software, abandoned long time ago on wireless and now I bless for UBNT routers to be decent replacement.
weird. try netboot. both for update or recover from attempts of it.
booting from backup loader for netboot, of course.
presently had only problems with fragmentation/reassembly of traffic[when most interfaces had different MTU/MRU basically].
aside lack of CPU power[to unleash ROS potential], focus on security, better power supply circuitry and unit and few other, kinda minor[for me]issues like sub-standard[non-Type-A]USB connector or lack of unusual[for casual networking user]feats and … oh wait
p.s.
i guess someone may put untested[enough/on2011]boot-loader into 5.24.
and/or not make it mandatory to update DURING first reboot[dunno if ROS support that option, yet].
It should be nice to know wich is the best firmware (routerboard firmware) for the 2011.
I have ordered new boards and I dont want to destroy them. Here RMA is more expensive than buying new ones.
probably would make sense to wait for Final 6.0 RouterOS and use 5.22 until.
my 2011 fine with rc11 basically i unused feats/packages that had issues/troubles, presently.
I already use DUDE to monitor network devices, thank you.
I always connect with latest winbox using IP addresses not MAC addr,
When new routerboot fw is available I put it on.
I began having problems updating RB2011 and some 750 with latest firmware 3.x, and these units died from 5.23 to 5.24
With older firmware 2.41 (I have loaeded them on all devices) I upgraded fw from the first releases of 5.x without any issue.
