Definistions for an RF newbi

Hello,
i am new to RF …
id like anyone can clear things out for
Tx,Rx,Noise Floor,SNR, Tx CCQ, the db for the antenna..

what are the proper values for them? how do i tune them, also if tere is a link that can explain that all.

does increasing the power helps? when do i need to do that?
why do the 2.4g signals go through the walls, while the 5ghz doesnt?

thanks.

don’t change these values in the wireless config. the only things you need to change - mode, frequency, ssid.

i just want to understand these values…

Not to sound like an advertisement but this should help you a great deal in terms of understanding radio waves and their properties.

Regards.

Tx
transmit rate
,Rx
receive rate
,Noise Floor
noise floor is erm, nose floor - this is at what level signal cannot be recognized as signal due to noise in environment

,SNR
signal to nose ratio - bigger the value means everything is ok

, Tx CCQ

how much you get from theoretical available

, the db for the antenna

depends on antenna - wrong values can bring you to broken link

SO, DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

and pls read the manual: http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/2.9/

hi, thanks
what are the normal values shown in the status tab that i can tell my link is ok?

post it, that screen report is better..

here are the readings on my station:
Band: 5Ghz
Frquency: 5700 Mhz
Tx/Rx Rate: 6Mbps
Tx/Rx Signal Strength: -61/-76
Noise Floor: -112
Signal to Noise: 36
Tx/Rx CCQ: 64/0
Overall Tx CCQ: 0
Ack Timeout: 28

the station now is not very far from the AP, i will soon install another station that is somehow far, so please let me know which values should i monitor to make sure my link is stable.

Thank you.[/img]
