Dependence or parent?

I would like to solve a problem. I installed the version 4 beta 2, and accurate than “dude” has not reported the arrest of equipment children if the parent device stops.
Create a dependency and let the layout dependencies?
Or add a parent in the configuration device’s son?
I have a system for sending SMS, and when the parent device stops, the children all notifications are sent.

yes, you can do either.

make dependency links in the map using dependency layer, or use “parent” option in settings. both will accomplish the same task (if you do one, the other will be done automatically)
