i m planning to create, multiple SSID’s with VLAN tags, on zonedirector, and manage those WLANs, with routerboard.
what i did is,
bought a L2 managed switch (all ports are vlan1 untagged, which is default setup,and i didnt touch it)
connected, zonedirector, accesspoints,and eth1 of routerboard to that switch.
i created a SSID, TEST_1001, with VLAN tag 1001 , on zonedirector.
then i added a vlan (vlan1) intarface on eth1, with 1001 vlan tag.
then i gave 192.168.99.1, to vlan1 , and 192.168.99.101 to a client connected to TEST_1001 WLAN.
but i couldnt ping from mikrotik to client,or client to mikrotik.
changing vlan tag to 1, and disabling vlan tagging on TEST_1001 , makes pinging possible again.
i remember doing exactly same on a test pc, with demo licence, before buying the routerboard.
just couldnt figure out what i am forgetting now, please help.
i noticed that, the RB493 has an item, named SWITCH in menu, which has VLAN settings etc.
of course it was not available on pc with demo licence, i wonder if that is what i forgot, any ideas ?
We have RB1000 running Hotspot via ZoneDirector with different SSID’s on different VLAN’s. But we have the root AP’s plugged into the RB1000 directly, with VLAN’s on the Ethernet ports of RB1000. All the other AP’s mesh with the root AP’s back to the zone director.
Given our setup works, I think the only difference is you have a switch in between RB and zonDirector - so It’s probably the VLAN setup on your switch causing the issue. Try plugging one of the AP’s directly into the RB without the switch in between and see if it works as you want it to
