Ok MK, in New Zealand we’ve just started receiving ROS HW with 7.18 installed, and this came with the unbelievable brick wall of a monumental feature on how to seriously disrupt the workflow and ultimately instill disbelief and make grown men cry for those of us who work in the WISP industry and ins…

Brian, to be able to help you, we must be able to understand your goals. This is just common sense.

One thing seems to be incorrectly reported from time to time. Devices that are upgraded, stay working with all features. Nothing is breaking upon upgrade. This is in the manual: For devices running versions prior to RouterOS version 7.17, all devices use the advanced/enterprise mode. So we are …

Outside of device-mode, for deployment of new devices and conversion of config from old to new device in general (user had an old MikroTik device and now has bought that shining new one), it would be helpful when: there is a good document that describes what commandline parameters are changes in w…

[image] normis: Devices that are upgraded, stay working with all features. Just reading the changelogs shows that this statement is clearly incorrect. And in advanced mode these items are disabled (and it is also written in the changelog that these entries, which previously did not exist, a…

[image] normis: So we are discussing new devices and how to improve deployment flow. The future concern is what if you introduce new device-mode's. Basically, there is not some "best pratice", nor knowledge of how future device-mode additions be handled. [image] normis: Devices that are…

Well what is worrying (in your scenario) is that there already are device-mode settings that are apparently set to “yes” on all devices (advanced, basic and home). These are: pp2p, l2tp, ipsec, smb, zerotier. What is the purpose of those? Were they too hastily introduced based on observed scenari…

Just to seperate problems here... I see three theme: out-of-box provision to set needed device-mode is "hard" and/or manual e.g. lack of netinstall/branding/flashfig control of device-mode How to allow device-mode changes in field "safely" and without requiring the power-cycle e.g. lack of s…

Device-Mode Enabled on Majority of Newly Received Routers – Causing Major Deployment Delays General

that scene is perfect. If you got the impression that I wasn’t updating / controlling the RouterOS version at the same time as applying the configuration, then I didn’t explain the process well enough. In that time 2:15 or 2:49 with device-mode set, we open the case of 20 routers, unbox the individual routers and plug them into the PoE switch, our system looks up and finds the default credentials from the list our distributor supplies and logs into the router, …
