Good afternoon. I’m looking for some clarification if the router board that I have can handle this subnet class. I have inherited a Mikrorik RB532. I have the need for more than 254 IP addresses and was told that this unit can support that. I am using it for a hotel that has @ 500 rooms. We set up the unit with a network of 172.16.0.0/22. More than enough IP addresses but we have yet to see that many connected and I get complaints about users not being able to sign on. I am wondering if this unit can even support that network? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Router OS is a software defined routing platform and an issue like DHCP pool size would be a software level thig. So the answer is that a pool size for a /22 is absolutely fine. The thing your going to want to watch closely is your memory and more importantly your CPU load on that router.
If your not running ROS 5.25 then what OS is it running? Also, are the log files reporting any trouble?
I’m not sure how much your expecting out of that router but it sounds undersized for handling 500 connections. You may be better off with something like an RB1100hx2 or at least a RB2011L-IN if the price of the 1100 is too high.
