DHCP Relay configuration

Hi, I need a little assistance with DHCP relay configuration.

I have a MT RB433 acting as a router/dhcp server. The outward network goes to a Cisco 24-port switch. I need to service several distant rooms on this base in Afghanistan, so I decided to use another RB433 as a DHCP relay using a wireless access point.
DHCP network is 192.168.0.0/24, and gateway/dhcp server are at 192.168.0.1

I have the following settings in the relay RB433, as suggested else where in the Forums:

  • join the wlan1 and ether1 interfaces in a bridge
  • bridge is assigned as a DHCP-client
  • set bridge as dhcp-relay
  • check default route to gateway

When I connect to the wireless (set as AP bridge), my laptop is assigned DHCP without a problem. However, no traffic passes to the gateway. I can MAC connect through the relay and the switch to the DHCP server RB433.

From my laptop, I can ping the bridge and from the router/dhcp server I can ping the bridge. The bridge is assigned an IP and so is my laptop. The router/dhcp server CANNOT ping my laptop and vice-versa.

I tried enabling passage of all traffic in firewall/mangle since it sounded like traffic was being blocked, but that did not help. I feel like a complete idiot, but I could sure use some constructive suggestions here.

Thanks!

Well, everyone’s gonna have a laugh at this. A day and a half later, I noticed I had the same problem with a different brand wireless router as well. I asked my tech to try it with his laptop and it worked just fine. Turns out I had it configured correctly the whole time, it’s just that either my 3945ABG internal wireless card or Vista Ultimate doesn’t happen to like the wireless connection. Jeez…

Just as well tho, huh? I didn’t get a single response!
