Huh. Strange. The manual only documents ‘domain’ as an attribute, and when you set/unset that via the CLI both columns in Winbox are populated. Changing the “DNS Domain” value in Winbox is not reflected in the CLI, changing the “Domain” column is. According to the manual ‘domain’ sets the DNS domain:
domain (string; Default: ) The DHCP client will use this as the ‘DNS domain’ setting for the network adapter.
There isn’t anything else that makes sense for that column to represent. I guess use the “Domain” column only and ignore the other one. Maybe email support@mikrotik.com for clarification.
hey thanks for the quick and useful reply.
I checked the manuals, wiki, forum but could not find any distinguishing info. I also tried setting the two entries individually in Winbox and ‘domain setting’ seemed to have no obvious effect. I did not consider the idea that the CLI to Winbox setting for domain was a one-many relationship.
I will email Mikrotik support.
here is the response from Mikrotik support:
It was Winbox issue, DNS domain and Domain are the same settings.
There will only domain in the next RouterOS version.
