DHCPv6 leaks my /ip/dns records to clients

Hi, im not sure if its a bug or feature but its really a problem for me.

After big investigation i discover that if you using dhcpv6 and in ND you Advertise your local DNS server. Your clients gets dns from your ND which is exactly what i want but also they get your router own dns via DHCPv6. And unfortunately CloudFlare DNS dont know about my ipv6 dns or static leases.. I found the way - set a dhcp option 23 with value " " but its little inconvenient.
In DHCPv4 you can set DNS and its not injecting its own dns to clients..

Wouldn't be the simplest solution not accept the upstream DNS in the dhcpv6-client? Option 'use-peer-dns' set to false and the DNS can't be sent down.

Hi, thanks for reply.
I tried to check that option and it's False and it was since i configed my router. I'm happy i found solution in form of that 23 option though.

So, you uncheck that option and you still got the upstream DNS? That certainly should not be.

I'm new in Mikrotik's world maybe its just my lack of knowledge or something else missconfigured. What now? can i paste here some of my config or is there some bug report system? Because I think i have it right, but maybe some seasoned admin prove me wrong

You can do both:

  1. paste your sanitized configuration for review by fellow forum members, instructions here:

  2. open a ticket with Mikrotik support
    support@mikrotik.com
    Log into Atlassian - Support

This behavior has been there as far as when I first tried the DHCPv6 server implementation in RouterOS. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago where people discovered this just like you Dynamic IPv6 DNS server from ISP are being hand out into LAN with advertise-dns=no.

And the current workaround (as you can also read in that thread) is a custom option 23 that you've found out yourself too.

If that bothers you then you should fill a support ticket as instructed by @jaclaz. The workaround is tiny enough that it doesn't bother me.

Thanks you all for your answers, yes for me its solved by that custom option. i posted it here just for some Mikrotik developers as a tip to improve quality of life in form of some obvious check-box so its friendlier to new users. Have a nice day

Normally, MikroTik staffs do not read this user forum, except for maybe some release announcement threads. If you want them to notice any issues, you need to use the support channels (emails or the ticket system).

The manually added empty option will no longer be needed from 7.26+ as there will be a setting to disable the sending of option 23.
