Dishnet ISP double NAT - They do provide IPV6, but....

I am not sure how/if I can make use of it.

So, I have DishNet that uses a double NAT and I cannot hit the router as I have no WAN IP. I have no experience with IPV6 and have a question. I am told the with Dishnet the IPV6 WAN address is discrete to the modem. Can I use the IPV6 address to reach the router for admin?

I am not sure how to do this any help? Assuming it is possible to have IPV6 and 4 on the same interface… I hope this is not a dumb question.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can run dual-stack [v4 and v6] with RouterOS. Do you have admin access to the modem? If so you can ‘port forward’ regardless of how many addresses it has.

So - I am not sure, but will check. I am not sure how that would work? How would you forward from the WAN to the router?

Would the IPV6 hit the router directly? Sorry to be naive just never really dealt with double NAT before.

I may not know much about the RouterOS, but I know you can’t go changing anything on your Hughes/Exede/ViaSat/Wildblue modem (Or I couldn’t when I had the Hn7000S with Hughes, and now Exede with ViaSat.) and most of everything is over ridden (Such as DNS) at the Sat NOC (Network Operation Center).

If what DrCows says is true, then you’ll need to ask your provider if they assign a v6 subnet for your use as well. We might even be able to work it out if you can give us a screenshot from the modem showing what v6 address[es] it has.

I can understand why a provider would use v6 to manage CPE - it means they don’t have to waste precious v4 addresses on it. It would be a bit of a shame if all you’ve got is a /128!
