Before I sound like a complete idiot (which I may be, perhaps it’s just working on Saturday that has me thrown) I’ve set up Ubitiquiti equipment before with no issue. The routerboard SXT came highly recommended and the setup was to be similar … but it appears that it is not, or I’m just missing something fundamental, in which case I’ll kick myself once it’s up and working.
Here’s where I am:
The equipment is in place, cables connected and the units appear powered up (the green light under the access cover is on). I do not see the MAC in the list of connected devices (the ip 192.168.88.1 is outside of the dynamic range, so I’m not sure it’d show up anyway) in the routers’ list of connected devices. I have tried ssh-ing using both my linux box and putty on a windows box across the network and directly connected. I get nothing. I’ve even tried pinging (but if it is setup not to respond by default I wouldn’t expect to see anything, but there doesn’t appear to be anything in the documentation I’m able to locate regarding pinging the device).
From the command line I’ve entered: ssh -l admin 192.168.88.1
I’ve also attempted to use WinBox for discovery … nodda.
I really wish the documentation wouldn’t refer to other support documents for setup. One would think it would be sequenced for both hardware and setup/configuration … or give an example setup. I’ll quit rambling and get to the point of desperation and plead for someone’s assistance. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ralph.
PS: I attempted to phone the vendor, but surprise - no one is there over the weekend (not that I blame them).
Let me elaborate further with some screen shots:
Soooo … http sees the router and posts the default Apache Webserver window, but not webfig (as “/” or “/webfig/”) … WinBox doesn’t see the connection and neither does ssh. ssh errors out with:
Ubuntu:~$ ssh -l admin 192.168.88.1
ssh: connect to host 192.168.88.1 port 22: Connection refused
Which would suggest there is a connection, just that it is refused.
Suggestions?
Update/intermediate solution:
IDK Connected with a Windows box via IP and gained access via webbox. Is there some conflict accessing the SXT with a linux box? Otherwise the aforementioned part of this message may be disregarded.
Additional update - appears I set the Default Route/Gateway to 192.168.88.0, in the Windows set up it was set to 192.168.88.1 It’s all in the detail.
