i’ve found a bug on which routeros DNS. it fails to forward dns packet request to the client for the following site: www.klikbca.com and vpn.tarumanagara.com
browse to www.klikbca.com, firefox could not connect blablabla.
i’m using opendns on mikrotik routers set 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as primary and secondary respectively. changing the dns to google dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 didn’t work too.
i have to set static dns in mikrotik as follows, www.klikbca.com to 202.6.211.8, and vpn.tarumanagara.com to 202.6.208.33. afterward, the browser works.
i don’t know whose to blame here, either is it bad configuration from www.klikbca.com or from my mikrotik.
i can confirm this happens sometimes on routeros 4.17 as well.
the ip address of www.klikbca.com is already listed on mikrotik dns cache, but it seems the browser don’t know what to do. i tested this bug with firefox 8.01, chrome 15.x, opera 11.60, and ie9 on several windows xp, windows 7, and ubuntu.
if i change client dns manually to local ubuntu and windows dns server (not through mikrotik dns), the browser works normally. that’s why i post this in mikrotik forum to get help. flushing the mikrotik dns cache didn’t work, setting mikrotik dns to use local ubuntu and windows dns server didn’t work too.
