Hi forum Gurus can some one tell me if this will work??
i wont to add numerous dns ips to the mikrotik like the adguard container does because im running the adlist on the mikrotik not a container anymore
so i can pick the dns i wont to use as they are always different response times during the days and nights
so this way i can get a some what fast internet and speeds out of the ISP
do i put them in the static dns section?? like this will this make them all do something??
or do i just add all them to the dns server part?? like this but can only add ipv4 here
Or doesnt this work like this??
as my dns isnt the best so i would like the mikrotik to use all? for the job or am i barking up the wrong tree here and it wont work how i would like it to
i have had a google search but cant find the info im looking for
cheers pete
no thanks i have the dns adlist running i wont to no if i can run multiple dns ip at once
if you have run a container before with adguard you will no that you can use multiple dns entrys this so the dns search is done faster and buy many
but thanks anyhow
according to my understanding and the way I use successfully those configs, the IP->DNS sections is ment to tell devises what are the servers to use for “local” names resolving. In fact if I remember correctly it’s configured out of the box with just the router’s IP (eg: 192.168.1.1).
The static entrys are the one you configure if for instance you want to ping “devicexyz” and the router translate it to the corresponding IP in the LAN (it’s usefull also to show devices names instead of just IPs or the name the devices automatically shows up…and they sometimes are ugly!)
If you’re talking about where to configure the DNS used to surf the internet you have to go in IP/DHCP Server/Networks and set as many IPs you want under DNS Servers. The devices ask to to the router what IP for what URL and the router answers asnking to what you configured there
maybe what you did works the same (I think not, you tell me), but in my opinion you’re setting useless not used rules while not configuring at all what you really need
cheers mate that’s the answer i was looking for
i have the IP/DNS/SETTINGS dns servers set up in the dns section with all i just changed them to the IP/DHCP/network section as u mentioned i will try there cheers for the reply
yes i wont the surf the internet dns part is what i was looking for as my ISP dns are not very reliable so im testing some other dns options
so i put the IP/DNS server back to the router ip
removed default rout so i dont use ISP DNS
still has the dynamic ipv6 but i dont now how to remove that so it can stay
i have put the new ip address in the IP/DHCP/SERVER section u talk of so i will test now cheers
so i will test and let you know
happy to help, let me know if it works as expected
I was just wondering why you “downgraded” to the adlist. isn’t it more difficult to use and with less configurations capabilities? I use Pihole (both with a raspberry and a container) and have millions of entries and different rules per devices…can’t imagine how to transmigrate to the simple adlist.
ok for thos who are playing along you cant do this way IP/DHCP/NETWORK/DNS
as it wont work with adlist so i just found out mmm ok so i try a little more and this is the end result to make adlist work
the other way works but adlist dont play the game and block the ads so it sort of works
you can have the dns settings in the DHCP bit empty or populated so i just put in the routers ip still works but the
DNS entrys must be in the IP/DNS settings like i have in the picture for adlist to work
