DNS Resolving

I have multiple networks scattered across the US. My problem is some of the properties dont have the luxury of static ip’s. I am using a few different dydns services. Can the dude connect to a device that has a changing ip if I give it the dns name?

On the General tab for a device…

The DNS name is looked up at the DNS lookup interval once per hour is the default I believe.
I believe it will automatically change IP addresses.

The name you speficy in the device DNS Names: box will be the name looked.
The Name: of the device is arbitrary as far as I can tell but I don’t have your requirement so I don’t know if it does change IP address.

Also if you have a changing name and a fixed IP you can change the DNS lookup to be address to name instead of the default name to address.

Don’t be afraid to experiement!

Thanks for info.

Experiementing is fun sometimes. Other times kinda sucks.

Wish we could get a updated manual for dude sometimes.

Yeah I was thinking I should go modify the wiki myself since I know there are many things that need to be documented… It is really a great piece of software.

not sure if this is the right place; but i was wondering if the dude could resolve DNS from say the Agents tab? i have a few “agent dudes” that are not static ip. Or could i somehow write a script that does a resolve and updates these values?

Thanks Mikrotik for all your work on this software!

Thanks
