DNS seems to stop working on static addresses

Hi Folks!

I’m running 4.16 here on a PC box here and on an RB450G at our synagogue. This has been a headache for me.
I have a PPTP tunnel between both locations (for secure Asterisk connections between both locations). AMd that seems to work. I use dyndns.org to host DNS for both locations. THat works. I created a static DNS entry pointing to both PBXes on my box and remotely using the locally defined 10.x.y.z addresses. It seems when my router is rebooted things seem to work. If I trace to pbx.chabadofreading.homedns.org it works. Some time later this address no longer works and a trace takes me to the public ip of chabadofreading.homedns.org. This obviously disconnects things.

I’ve attached two screenshots of how things are now. Anyone have an insights? I’ve flushed the cache to no avail.

THanks leon

attached is a screenshot showing the tunnel working going to the address that is supposed to be resolved.

Run traceroute from router console. Winbox uses computer’s DNS settings, maybe your computer is using not MikroTik DNS cache.

HI there!

ok it works there but all clients on my network are not working. So what is the problem? Could it be when the DHCP lease expires and renews?

thoughts?

Thanks leon

Make sure clients are not using different DNS server configuration (static ones).

Provide us with step by step configuration, we should make to reproduce the problem 100% (not just works for me, but somewhere does not work).

my core router 10.161.51.1 is a dns server as well as dhcp server.
I’ve configured 10.161.51.1 as the primary DNS
I’ve attached a screenshot

I think I may have found it but dont understand why it would work sometimes and others not. I set the DNS options as well and did not put 10.161.51.1 as the primary. I am rebooting the router and see what happens. let me report back later.

thanks leon
