Has anyone else had users that just would not work when using the integrated DNS server in 2.9 release? Works fine for me but just will not work for some of our users tell we move them back to AT&T servers.

Well, yes and no, if the local dns cache’s IP address did not have a hostname+reverse in the dns cache then that could pose as a problem. See if adding that makes a difference.
