Hi,
is it BUG?
I use DOH DNS with quad9. I also use adlist called StevenBlack. Unfortunatelly this adlist block googleadservices. which is sometimes usefull. I tried to use DNS/static and also DNS/Forwarders but NOONE record unblock googleadservices..
I changed the first topic. NO I do not use PiHole as DNS. I only took the adlist StevenBlack which is used in PiHole by the way…I use adlist in roteros only.
Ah ok… I was confused by mentioning Pi-hole in context, yes StevenBlack adlist is used by default in Pi-hole…
Not sure if you can override/whitelist domain used by adlist in ROS DNS, I use Pi-hole in container There are limitations in ROS DNS adlist filtering comparing to Pi-hole or AdGuard, like whitelisting DNS clients, probably domains too and other bunch of stuff…
Create a file with all googleadservice names and corresponding IP addresses.
Add a DNS Adlist Entry, select the file you created and make sure it is first in entries of AdList.
You might get the correct IP address from the file, instead of 0.0.0.0 from Steves List.
Adlist block googleadservices. How to make acces to this googleadservices domain?
The “ad” in both names might give you an indication. Btw, Adlist doesn’t “block”, it resolves with an incorrect IP adress.
Access might be possible through the steps mentioned above.
The choice seems to be AdList, static DNS, DNS cache,DNS forwarder. For me this order does make sense.
Well, it will work like that until googleadservice changes IP, this is not uncommon if is behind some load balancer and some service node becomes unavailable, not really good solution for whitelisting hosts IMO.
@Rox169 use Pi-hole or AdGuard instead ROS DNS if you need any even slightly more features than just using adlist as is.
Agree that it works as long as it works.
Instead, @Rox169 could look for a list online that doesn’t contain googleadservice. In the end, it is up to him (or her) what list(s) he/she is using.
