Do I need Hotspot for Radius > usermanager?

Hi Bros,

I am planning to setup a centralized Radius Server using RB1000.
intention: user login by (username:password)

client connections are as following:

client RB(n) RB433ah RB1000 eth1
client RB(n) RB433ah RB1000 eth2
client RB(n) RB433ah RB1000 eth3
------------------------------------------------------------RB1000 eth4 -----> ISP

First of all I do like a personalized interactive login page as i always have…

do i have to setup a hotspot on each router? if so, should i customize the login.html on all of the routhers?

can i just make on login page on RB1000 and keep all of the users on there?
I would wish for:
client connect to RBs > redirect and redirect to > RB1000 > a login page to popup to fill user&pass…

sorry, first time thinking about Radius, and I am not so sure about it…

love,

You can’t host a central page on a router, but you can host it on a single webserver.
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Customizing_Hotspot#Examples
It’s the last example listed.

forget about having the pages on one router… i will have to make pages for each router…

but what about user/pass data? can it be on one Radius server…

in my case… RB1000…?

Yes.

If you need the RADIUS server to be hosted on a server you have to use User Manager. FWIW I think other RADIUS servers are more capable.

Now I need help on setting up user manager on RB1000, maybe it’s better than radius?..

any help… starting form downloading package… and install it… what i have the same options as redirecting all other
RB’s to just on RB1000 to handle user/pass and stuff…

.

when a customer connects to my system, can he/she create his own account with user/pass? if i am running user-manager?

while i’m reading, the manual says i must have a hotspot setup on each router, dose that mean a
hotspot with no user pass?

i really need some answers… it’s little confusing… but i will fight to win it…

Each router runs a Hotspot because Hotspots have to be on the layer 3 hop the clients face (in other words, the Hotspot must run on the default gateway the clients use to get to the Internet).

The Hotspots are then configured to perform authentication via RADIUS, and when a client submits credentials the Hotspot first checks its local user database and then - if it can’t find that user account - sends the credentials to the RADIUS server, which either accepts or rejects the access request.

Yes, User Manager can be used to create ad hoc accounts clients sign up for with a credit card. That is outlined in the wiki as well. The basic idea is to change the login page that clients are shown where they submit credentials, and to include a link to the User Manager page where a payment can be made and user accounts can be created. The Hotspot walled garden section is then used to permit access to that external sign up page even for users that are not yet logged in.

I know what the user is — but then there is also “subscriber” and “customer”..

the mission is to use voucher cards for the people who connect to the system.
the people are “users” ----

where dose the subscriber and customer fits in here?

need some clearance of points please…

thx

Let me clear my points here…

someone, anyone connect to the network… if already a member, login and use service..
if not a member, a link to take them to create an account for themselves. then buy a voucher cards and login to use services.

thanks

ok, following some wiki links, i did setup the use manager, added a user and tested it over my other RB’s, and it was successful.

Now… on my other RB’s radius, I have “NAS Port Type”, what’s the best to select:
ethernet
cable
wireless
?
I have both ethernet and wireless running on one RB.. but Radius only allows on option?

also, is there a link somewhere that easily explains how to setup a method where users themselves create accounts -user/pass with their contact info?

many many thanks in advance…
