Does PowerBox "Pro" have same PoE-In cable length limit as non "Pro" version ?

So I bought a Mikrotik PowerBox (didn’t realize at the time there was a Pro version) only to discover that if your PoE In cable is more than about 10 meters long PoE out will stop working with a “Short Detected” error even if you have nothing plugged in to the PoE out ports in some cases.

Apparently there use to be a “Dangerous” option that allowed you to use " Longer " PoE cables “ether1-poe-in-long-cable=Yes” that Mikrotik disabled around 2017. So it appears that now there is no way to use both PoE In and Out on any of the Mikrotik devices we have if the PoE In cable is more than about 10 Meters long.

SO, what I would like to know is whether or not I will have the same problem if I purchase a PowerBox “Pro” ? I need to do up to 300ft Cat6 to the PowerBox , I will adjust for power loss accordingly, and then from the power box I may need to go another 200ft or more. Can the PowerBox Pro do this ?

I haven’t tried yet but I guess if I had to I could run one Ethernet cable for Data and a second one as just an extension cord and wire the little power plug to the end of it (4 wires for + and 4 for -). But would even that work or would the PowerBox still report shorts on the PoE out ports ?

I ve used this command on a 6.44.2 Version that was Released on 2019-Apr-01 12:47 …

So, how sure are you that the above does not work ?

That command doesn’t work on powerbox pro. Even though I had to to always use it on powerbox, never had an issue with powerbox pro just working. Sometimes have to set poe-out to forced but other than that they run fine

This thread is a duplicate of this one. The command works (and is necessary almost always) on Powerboxes. It does not work (nor is it necessary) on Powerbox Pros.

Nice to know @macsrwe
