Just come over from a few years on Draytek. Struggling with the Mikrotik to get things setup. Is there a way of setting up local domains pointing to local ip addresses of devices? So if I enter a domain name into the browser it redirects me to that ip. For example putting ‘mixer.io’ in my chrome browser will take me to 192.168.1.100 and display my HTML5 digital mixer.
Thanks
I apologize on Sob’s behalf for putting a complex operation before you.
Simply go to the IP DNS section under IP in winbox.
Then select the static button
Then select the + symbol.
Type in name and address
or the much more difficult (3 steps)
is to find and select New Terminal
type in /ip dns static add name=mixer.io address=192.168.1.100
hit enter
Thank you for the reply. That was easy, I looked in IP>DNS before thinking it must be in here, but didn’t wan to start pressing buttons and destroy what little understanding I have of this new router.
Thanks for the quick support. Apologies but I am only at clever retard level with ROS, hopefully in a few weeks ROS will be second nature and I can progress to genius retard.
Sorry, I forget that some people didn’t see RouterOS before. But as you quickly find out, GUI has the same structure as CLI, so even scary long commands in text form can be relatively easily applied using WinBox/WebFig.
Well I just hope you like smelling pickles that have are pickled with garlic!
I only just graduated out of the retard level (not exactly a kosher term these days) but am happy to say am advancing quickly through the moron level.
You should ask for editable forum titles. Then you could be “person with unique understanding of things”, or whatever the “correct” modern name might be.
