Dual AP qick setup

Hi all! Please help me quick setup Home AP dual. My router address/gateway is 192.168.8.1, mask 255.255.255.0. In router are enabled dhcp. If I connect Mikrotik cap to my switch, it must work as AP and share 2,4 and 5 GHz wifi in other side of my house. I add one screenshot, please give me any tips what I do wrong. I see from my pc this Mikrotik, can connect through wifi, but no internet access.. Thanks for any help!

The quickset config looks defaultish and nothing stands out.
I would need to see the complete config
/export hide-sensitive file=yourconfig

Also is the main router MT, if so its config as well.
You note a managed switch in between? Type?
Which are the trunk ports and what vlans do they carry?

@okaru: Unfortunately, this can’t be done with Quickset. The closest setting to your need would be “WISP AP” in “bridged” mode, but then you still have to manually set wlan1 (2GHz) because “WISP AP” mode sets only wlan2 (5GHz)

@anav: You don’t need to see whole config. We actually talked about this a while ago: http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/using-mikrotik-hap-as-simple-switch-plus-wireless-ap/107237/14 Until Mikrotik change their quickset for home-ap and home-ap-dual to have “bridge/router” switch, then this has to go through full setting. (which seems easy to us, but for new users it is terrifying)

simple explanation of what is happening according of screenshot:

  • “home AP dual” quickset → router mode with Eth1 = WAN (“internet” section in quickset) vs ETH2-5 + WLAN1-2 bridged (“local network” and “wireless” section in quickset)
  • “firewall router” unchecked → there are no firewall rules. Literary NO firewall rules → everything is accepted, no questions asked. input, forward, … you say it…
  • “dhcp server” unchecked → connected devices won’t get IP.
  • “NAT” unchecked → there is no NAT rule (src masquerade) this is the thing which makes it confusing for beginners By default it is unchecked and such quickset will not work in any typical environment.

To sum up - if @okaru enable checkboxes DHCP Server and NAT, internet will magically start working on wifi and Ethernet ports, but that won’t be true “AP/bridge” mode. It will be just “router” mode which is not recommended for this purpose. (because of extra NAT)
I would strongly recommend mikrotik to add a “router / bridge” switch into “Home AP” and “Home AP Dual” quicksets, same way as they did it in “WISP AP” quickset. In addition, if “router” mode is selected, it would be good to have a “Firewall Router”, “DHCP Server” and “NAT” checkboxes enabled by default.

At the moment, devices usually come with reasonably good factory setting. However, quickset (which should make setting quick and easy) actually breaks this good setting by default and users must make extra effort to correct it.
Basic rule of UX says, that stuff must work the best possible way by default without any effort. And if user wants it differently, then he can put some effort and change the setting.

Ahh okay, I used the default setting on my capac (came with AP-WISP) selected as default. I simply added the WLANs and vWLANs I needed. I assumed a quickset setting of dualAP was also standard on some devices and would work out of the box. You don’t expect me to remember every detail of every thread do you? In fact, truth be told I don’t remember the first time we kissed! ;-0

Yes, that is what I recommended to OP - use WISP AP in bridge mode and add manually remaining WLANs. Unfortunately, that will require to step out of quickset.

Yea, haha, nope. Device works out-of-the-box but quickset actually breaks stuff unless you know what to do, despite the fact that Home AP Dual in router mode is exactly same mode as factory setting.

I wouldn’t expect anything less from my guru!

I don’t remember the first time we kissed! ;-0

:open_mouth: Now hooold on mate! I don’t remember either

Don’t worry mate, I don’t ride ponies! :-0. At least not convicted of doing so yet!

Unbelievable ! I am so grateful to @vecernik87
I wasted so much time struggling with AP Home Dual setup with 3 Cap AC. 1pcs is working on some level but usually no IP. When set AP Wish all fine, almost.
Please do something for the quick set template, it has been like this now 6 years and I cannot be only one smashing my head to wall with it. I am using latest stable 7.19
