Hi,
I’m thinking of using the Basebox 5 along with an R11e-2HPnD to build a dual band wireless access point in my office. I just had a couple of questions …
- the obvious one being, does this sound like a good plan and if not what would others advise using for the same dual band access point?
- what aerials would people advise using for an office environment
- what pig tails would I need to buy to go from the additional card to the outside of the Basebox 5 case?
Many thanks, Dominic.
Hello,
you can use the Basebox5 but you should take care of the TX Power.
if you’ll use R11e-2HPnD for 2G network, i won’t recommend using dual chains with dual band setup.
also, i’d avoid using extra pigtails, get any RP-SMA compatible antenna and attach it directly to the connector.
you should end-up with Basebox 5 with two antennas attached, one for 2GHz(Single chain) and other for 5GHz(Single chain).
Good Luck.

Why not use dual chains on dual band setup?

I am currently thinking of this set up also and wondering if Basebox5 accompanied with R11e-2HPnD would be acting like a simultaneous access point in the web interface by not going to winbox, I was thinking if in the web configuration is there a setting that i could set 5ghz band to repeater and then 2ghz will take care of the recieve signal to clients by not going to configure it in winbox? or in the web interface it allows only to use one band at a time?
I’m not sure I follow, a basebox5 will have three available interfaces, a 5Ghz wireless interface and an ethernet interface on from the board and a 2.4 Ghz one from the additional card.
For all intents and purposes it will be no different to a router with 3 ethernet ports if you want to think about it along those lines.
