Hello. First post. I currently have 1Gb service from ATT. It uses a gateway by Pace. Due to working from home and kids being home all the time, I want to add another 1G from Comcast. There is heavy usage in my house and my work requires high bw and reliability. I know I don’t need 2g, but its cheap here, so why not. I used to be a network tech but now run a sales team. This project will be fun for me and give me a healthy outlet!
I’ve had Fortinet and Cisco networks in the past, but they were free from my work! After a lot of research, I am thinking about purchasing a Mikrotik router. Either the ccr1009 or the rb4011. I plan on load balancing the wan ports. I will have 3 networks: work, gaming, iot/wifi. Security will be handled separately for each network because I have enough security devices to make it happen. I will also rate limit each network and do some basic shaping before the wan router. I will probably also do some basic qos for my work traffic and maybe gaming traffic. This is just to start.
I have a few questions:
-
Does the above make sense? I had my ccna a long time ago, but it has been over a decade since I did anything like this.
-
Would either of the devices, using the logic above, be able to utilize the 2g of wan bw? Is it overkill or not enough? Please recommend other models if needed.

I know the MT routers can be used to bypass ONT, but do you see any issues with the known good ONT bypass methods/configurations posted on this forum when introducing another WAN link (Comcast) to the config?
Thanks in advance for your help, questions, comments and recommendations! This will be somewhat new to me but I learn fast and love doing it.
