Dude under Linux (ubuntu) permissions issue

Hi there,

I’m having some problems running the Dude (server and client) on my Ubuntu laptop. I can get the application working under CrossOver, however I’m unable to ping anything.

Now before you all point me in the direction of the Linux Install wiki page, I have attempted to follow that and get stuck.

I think my problem is I’m using CrossOver (I have a key for it so why use wine). The app installed correctly and runs fine apart from tool usage.

The main menu launcher runs the following command -

“/home/username/.cxoffice/The Dude/desktopdata/cxmenu/StartMenu.C^5E3A^5Fusers^5FPublic^5FStart^2BMenu/Programs/The+Dude/The+Dude”

Adding gksudo to the front of the command still allows the application to start, however pings still don’t work (I’m able to ping 127.0.0.1 from a terminal)

So now I’m stuck. I’m not sure how to progress. Do I still need to work on correctly running the application as root? If I do, perhaps someone can tell me the correct permissions and which files need them so I can try running the application as my regular user.

If I’m successfully running the application as root, but it’s still not working, what next?

Help much appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone?
