Dumb DHCP Server Question

What does “Add ARP for leases” do?

Some of the DHCP servers have it set to yes, others no.

Honest to god don’t know what that does, I tried searching around but I got mixed information. Some sites/old posts said it means only DHCP can add leases to ARP, not like statically assigned. Others said the opposite, that it ensures DHCP works when I right click them when they have “D” status and make static in winbox.

This is something that is on my mind a lot coming from Ubiquiti routers.

Many thanks for any replies!

My understanding is that it is suppose to add MACs from DHCP clients dynamically to ARP table, then you can prevent people using static IP config by setting interface ARP mode to reply only.

Have not tested it myself yet, but IIRC, read a couple of posts saying it does not work

Thank you for the reply, so just to confirm it’s fine to leave “Add ARP for leases” off/no?

Depends on your requirements, but typically, read default, it is off
