E169 3G Modem on RouterBOARD 230

Hello

I am trying to use my 3G modem E169 on my RouterBOARD 230 but when I plug it in and try this command:

# /system serial-terminal usb2 channel=2

It dosen´t work but the modem is recognised by RouterOS when I type:

# /port print

The default baud-rate was 9600 but tried to make it static at 9600 but no results.. Someone have some ideas?

No one that has installed E169 in RouterOS ?

I had the E169 running on an RB433UAH using RouterOS 3.28 and it worked just fine.
Can’t speak for the RB230 though, maybe the USB doesnt provide enough power.

Also, which ROS version are you running?

I´m running RouterOS 4.2 Level 4  Should work..

Well the next thing I would try is use a powered USB hub in betweeen the 230 and the Modem, maybe the RB does not provide enough power.
If all else fails send a supout.rif and try and downgrade to 3.28 if nothing in your configuration depends on stuff only present in ROS4.

PS: I just noticed: use channel 0 for both options (data and the other stuff) - as far as i remember the E169 only supplies one channel.

I have now installed RouterOS v4.2 Demo on a stationary computer and did everything you said and some more.. but no results :frowning:
It makes it´s own ppp-client connection and shows up in the ports directory, but still.. cannot access the modem!
The USB power is not the problem here, but some configurations or something like that in the software.
Last test is to downgrade to RouterOS v3.28

If you’re using a USB Cable, try NOT using it… i had several occasions where the USB cable was of such bad quality that the modem showed up, but didnt work.
If that still won’t help - try taking a disabled(!) PPP client, make it use the usb port, try some values for Info channel (anything from 0 to 2 i guess) and click on the Info button so you see which one works (don’t forget to apply before clicking info).

Hi again and thank you for helping me!

I´ve not used the usb kabel, so that´s not it. I will try to change the channels from 0-2 and try when i get home.
