EdgeOS not as good as it appears?

Which test is correct?

  • Both are, since they use different methodology
  • I always thought that MTs number are too high
  • Ubnt is just that much better

As pictured below Mikrotik’s performance numbers for RB1100AHx2 are quite different from Tolly Enterprises test results commissioned by UBNT. The difference is quite stratling. Also note that MT’s results change as packet size increases where Tolly’s numbers stay relatively unchanged.

The results are misleading, because the test was apparently produced by running to/from ports in the same switch group, or other - not optimal way. As you know, there are two switch groups in the RB1100AHx2, and three additional ports outside the groups. Performance within one switch group is limited because of way how these ports are connected. There are many combinations which give much higher results than those tested by Tolly, but of course, it looks like the absolute lowest numbers were chosen for display.

If you know how the ports are connected, you can use optimal combination of ports to get the results MikroTik has posted. You can verify the MikroTik results easily by running a test between, for example, Ether1, Ether6, Ether11 etc.

Let’s keep it all in one topic, shall we? http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/mikrotik-1100ah-x2-vs-ubiquti-edge-router/59548/1
