effen documentation! (a hitchiker's guide to teh proxy)

http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/3.0/pnp/proxy.php

^So i'm in the "/ip proxy" submenu, and I'm not seeing the cache-drive variable anywhere. I've tried diving into the "set" global variable and seeing if it's a local variable in there. This seems like the most logical place for it.

Next, I stumble upon this little gem:

^So I get all excited because I think I've finally got the right resource here. The problem now is that I don't have the "Stores" directory under root. I seriously think that either A) RouterOS changes A LOT between versions, or B) Their documentation assumes a lot of things about prerequisite experience.

Can someone please help?!

the mentioned links are NOT the documentation. the first one is ages old, here is the documentation:

also, you use a very old version, upgrade to v5 please. use the Store menu to configure the external disks.

That makes sense. I was just testing the proxy features with some old boards I had lying around. The licensing allows upgrades up to version 4.17 on these things. Is store only available in v5?

all devices can be upgraded to v5 with Netinstall, it will make an exception and will extend the license. No, store should be also available in v4.17

Why? What is with v5 that it can be used on any device being old or new?

Is Netinstall the only way? We have many CPEs we would like to upgrade to v.5 when the say valid only until v.4xx

Can Netinstall be used remotely? I cannot visit every customer’s premises!

RouterOS says that you can upgrade to v4 only. That is the limitation of the license.

Mikrotik can give you a nice free gift of free upgrades, but only if you use netinstall. Netinstall will override the license limitation.
