Email problem with the dude.

I am running the dude v2. It does not send out notification emails at all, and hasn’t for several versions. This is a major problem for me because that is what lets me know my network has a problem. Is anyone else having this problem?

did it do it at some point in the past or never? does the specified smtp server work? can you ping it? have you set the proper notification type for the map that you use? map → settings → notifications? is the selected notification a email notification ? check in notifications settings.

The email notification worked for all the beta versions we used up until version 2 beta 10 ( i think) its been a while now so i dont remember positively. The smtp server works, we use it all the time.
Many times with the last several dude versions i get the error message “Invalid TO address” when i try to send a test message.

Same problem here on v2.0 no matter what my send address, fully qualified, I recieve the error. Kind of renders the monitoring service useless.

what type of SMTP servers are you using? What antivirus stuff on dude server
is running? We are unable to reproduce the error, please see your SMTP server
logs and report back if there is something interesting.

Not running any AV on this machine, SMTP server: smtp.everyone.net - don’t have access to the logs as we don’t host the server. We have an email address setup for no authentication that we’re using as the “from” address - we use this same setup in other monitoring programs and large scale copy/fax machines that use email relay. Thanks for your input.

Try packet sniffer like ‘ethereal’ to see what happens when you try to send email, and report back.

Just a follow-up on this in case someone else runs across the same problem. This was a case of “HUTA” (Google that acronym if you don’t know).

I was resolving mail.everyone.net when it should have been smtp.everyone.net.

So, as lame as it sounds, just make sure you’re using the correct SMTP server, not something else, doh!
