Hello
My setup is as follows, Netgear 1000mb switch which plugs into my D Link router. The router and the switch is connected via one cable. I have a RB750 that I want to connect between the router and the switch then plug the VOIP phone directly in to the RB750 (On the RB750 port 1 to DLINK router, port 2 to Netgear switch and port 3 VOIP phone) I have a 4 meg ADSL line with 512kb upload.
What I want to know is it best to dedicate a certain amount of bandwidth to port 3 (I think I need 64kb I use the G729 codec) or prioritize/mark the VOIP traffic so the router takes care of it? I don’t mind sacrificing some of my line speed to the VOIP. I have servers that backup over the internet to mine so I have traffic flowing on it the whole time.
I have not done any research on this as I was not sure which would be the best direction to go with I I don’t mind reading up so if there are recommended reading please paste the links
Thanks
Here is some good reading on QoS.

I would just prioritize the traffic. It is easier to build off of that later if you decide you need to expand your QoS.
