Entry level 10GB router planning.

I’m about to move from a 1GB to 10GB uplink at my colo… so I’m looking at the current hardware range for 10GB routers/switch

My current router is a RB5009UG+S+IN connected to the uplink and then my 3 node proxmox cluster.

Looking at the current range of SPF routers.. The CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS looks like the right choice, but I noticed the release date was 2020?
If it’s good it’s good.. but I feel like maybe it’s worth waiting for a refresh? or it that not on the cards yet because that cloud router is still suitable?

Look at the newer ARM64 processor routers. With V7, they are pretty decent.

I’ll put it off for a few months for pray for a refresh, but the CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS is what I’m looking for… So one of those for the routerOS replacement
then might grab a CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN for 25Gb between the nodes or something fun.

i suggest to make the due diligence comparing rb5009 and ccr2004 detailed performance figures so you set down a realistic performance improvement expectations

i dont expect ccr2004 to have a refresh in short term, but who knows…

be aware CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN is only a switch with a very simple CPU only for managing the switch, if you rely on CPU performance you will fail to meet a satisfactory performance

from the sum of your wishes looks like you need a ccr2216-1g-12xs-2xq, it checks all boxes:
12 x 25g interfaces
2 x 100g interfaces
powerfull CPU

Chechito why not the CCR2116-12G-4S+ ??? It meets the 10Gig throughput on the WAN side… and is $995, the product you suggested is for a 100gig wan, at $2795.
Stated differently are you providing us with the extra $1800 dollars?? If so I will send you my bank details.

You guys are crazy.
Even CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS at over $500 is not what I would classify as entry level…

Like it or not, but router at around 1k$ is nowdays entry level for 10Gbps. It’s only that many of us consider 10Gbps to be far from entry level.

holvoe, you are only noticing now???

I am simply following requirements, requested 10gig …
