Error message when using Neighbor Viewer on new laptops

I’ve tried to use neighbor viewer on four new laptops from two different manufacturers. All these laptops are running Vista SP1. I am logged in as admin.

Whenever I try to run neighbor viewer I get the below message and it will not open:
“recvfrom: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.”

Has anyone else encountered this?

Fix action?

I’ve received the same error on several computers. I think it was an MS Update. I just unboxed a new HP today, downloaded viewer, and i get the message. Hope someone finds the problem soon.

My guess is that neighbor viewer uses a lower network level that Vista doesn’t allow access to anymore.

Hi,

I was having the same problem. I got Neighbor Viewer running by activating compatibility mode on the executable and setting it to Windows 98. However I was unable to MAC telnet (connection just timed out). So I’ve started using the … button on the right side of the “Connect To:” field in WinBox. This essentially works exactly like Neighbor Viewer.

Hope this helps you out!
