ERROR: missing wireless-6.34.1.npk

Hello, when I try upgrade my RouterOS in virtual machine or in console. x86 version 6.31 to 6.34.1 that give error.

ERROR: missing wireless-6.34.1.npk

Why? when I tried disable and enble wireless there are same problem.

Thanks.

uninstall it, if you don’t use it. wireless.npk does not exist in new version. you must first install wireless-cm2

Same here, on 6.33.1. How do I know if I’m using the wireless.npk package or not? I used the Quick Set upgrade feature exclusively all this time and that is no longer working.

I can switch to manually upgrading packages, but I’m really not sure if the Wifi feature of the router depends on having this wireless package installed. Is CAPsMAN the only way to use wifi on a Mikrotik now?

A transitional dummy package would be nice to allow the quick upgrade to work.

I understand your frustration.

You have the following options:

  1. Paste this command in the terminal and reboot (telnet/ssh):
    /system package uninstall wireless

  2. Venture into the “System → Packages” menu and set the Wireless package for Uninstallation (then reboot)

  3. Leave everything as is and don’t upgrade it (if it works)

Well clearly option 3 is the best, but that’s no fun at all.

What I’d like to confirm is whether or not wifi will still work with version 6.34.1 after I uninstall the old wireless package. I assume it will, but just want to be sure before I do this.

Make sure that you currently don’t use “wireless”, but “wireless-fp” or “wireless-cm2”.

  1. Open System → Packages
  2. See which of the Wireless packages is darker, and which is greyed out
  3. If Wireless is greyed out, safe to uninstall and nothing will be lost
  4. If Wireless is active, but Wireless-FP and Wireless-CM2 is greyed out, you must first activate Wireless-CM2

Lost several SXT’s tonight upgrading from 6.30.4 to 6.34.1… Wireless no longer shows up as an interface, when connecting via MAC (to those still available)… upgraded via the “packages/upgrade & install”.

The SXTs I can still connect to via MAC show no packages and only the Gig Ethernet interface.

(Edited to remove furor after initial anger subsided. )

This is due to conceptual decision of mikrotik. When they are removing old type of wifi package it is not automatically replaced by its successor. Then you update the ros and loose the wifi. It is not smart from them but it is how it is and you should know it. You have just shown to others that you do not perform any tests before updating otherwise you would have realised that.

Uh, yeah - I clicked “download and upgrade” in their interface… clearly I did something totally wrong.

Edit / Update:

I confirmed that the download page makes no apparent mention of potential issues when upgrading via winbox and the changelog does not mention potential upgrade issues or provide instructions as to why a specific new wireless package should be selected. This may be the wrong thread, but this is pretty frustrating and has taken down a few SXTs and an x86 VM so far.
