error while upgrading and kernel not found

Hi friends…I have a router with model 450G.Yesterday I tried to upgrade the firmware to 5.23, then it displayed me the following error.

After that I tried 2 to 3 times, but it gave me the same error.

Then I changed the boot option to NAND only, after that it gave me an error as:

kernel not found

Please reply me on what I have to do to get out of these errors.

Where you see that netinstall trying to write RouterOS to SD-card? I’ve same problem when upgraded one RB450G to ROS 5.20. Netinstalling of course helped, but after that leaved many RB450G with ROS 5.18.

Hello sareeshkg,

at first there are some things I recognized there are different form normal!

1. You are using the RouterBOOT booter 2.28 and not the version 3.02 instead of it!
2. It seems that your RouterOS system is installed on the SD Card, please tell me why?
   It should installed on the 512 MB NAND storage, and other things should be installed on the SD Card!!!

• Safe your license key.
• Backup your settings or configuration.
• Install RouterBOOT 3.02
• Reinstall RouterOS by using the netinstall method without the SD Card please.

For sure you will be able to do so by using the netinstall method!
But you should have a saved copy of the license also I think!

Here is a detailed HowTo for doing so.

This should be not the problem but I think if the data or the entire system on the RouterBoard
is corrupted or what ever else you should have a saved copy of your license to re activating the RouterOS system.

I would try it out first as explained above:

• Downloading all is needed and described in the wiki
• Taking the SD card away (out)
• starting the netinstall procedure as described in the wiki
• re install the RouterOS on the NAND
• updating to the last RouterBoot
• paste in the license key and activate the router
• do the configuration once more again from the scratch, to be sure that there are no false inside.

Thats it.

If you have even problems you will be able to mark this thread here as a support call, on top of this thread
so perhaps someone from MikroTik support division will join and help you out or you could write an email directly to support@mikrotik.com

So be sure if this is not a hardware failure, you will even be able to reinstall RouterOS on the router!
