Ethernet Interface Numbering

Hi,

i’ve 13 ethernet interfaces i may rename them to whatever name i want. How
can I find out what Interface is bound to what Hardware Ethernet Port.
I may count the mac adresses or press the blink button.
if someone names the ports dmz-customer-xy, dmz-customer-b and so on,
how do i find out which Hardware Port this is ?

regards

Hello hellweiss.

You could use interface names like “ether01-dmz-customer-xy” or you could set a comment for that interface:

/interface ethernet set ether1 name=dmz-customer-xy comment="ether01; connected to DMZ of customer xy."

In an export they’re numbered 0 through whatever. AFAICT these are the real hardware port numbers.

Hi,
we’ll put it in the Comment and rename the Interface to ethX-dmz-customer-x.
We’ll save the Export file also, just in case.

thank you.

if you lose a config or mismatch the interfaces, the best way to check it is to run monitor

/interface ethernet monitor ether1,ether2,ether3... ether13, and plug in

and plug off the interfaces one by one and again name it
