I am finally following up on my earlier suggestion for using MT to detect power outages. I have built an ethernet crossover loopback cable (wired 1-6,2-3) which will be looped up by a utility powered relay (hooks the transmit to the receive, making the ethernet think it’s hooked to something - it doesn’t realize it’s hooked to itself, but that doesn’t matter). The relay losing power will cause the ethernet to loop up changing the state from down to up.
In system logging on the MT, I added route to the list of rules.
Now the MT (153) logs the interface state change. But it doesn’t log the name of the interface. I’ve got my ethernet loopback wired to ether5, and it’d be great if the MT could log “ether5 link up”. Any way to log the name of the interface that’s changing state?
Then I’d be able to tell that it’s an actual power failure causing an ethernet link change, rather than a reboot of ancillary networking hardware on another port causing the same message in the logfile.
