Export file troubleshooting tips. What else to add?

Thought of adding one more section to “Configuration Management” wiki article. Exactly about configuration export elements to check and look out for in “.rsc” export files from ROS devices. Before attempting to import this “.rsc” file in a new device.

If you have anything to add to the topic, please join in and I’ll check if we need to add that point to wiki article.

Giving out the settings from a router with a Wi-Fi adapter to a router without… (explain stuff that needs to be stripped out in that case)

Also watching out for whether all previously available modules are present on the new device.

Also watch out whether there isn’t a serial port on the new device, but the old one had it.

(In general, missing hardware/software pieces… the ones that are most frequently overlooked)

I know its obvious, but… check that number of ethernet interfaces match?

As boen_robot said in general, check that hardware “elements” match.

e.g. exporting an rsc from a RB1100AHx2 and try to import it on a CCR1009.

No, it has never happened to me :sunglasses:

also, watching out for an export done on wireless equipment using old wireless package, then try to import on on using wireless-fp or -cm2…

Would it nor be sensible to fix the export / import rather than producing a page of things to avoid?

I think wiki has a lot of interesting pages and it doesn’t have any borders. I think people can create a lot of pages that do they think to need.
