Some of us need to be able to export a full configuration file and be able to import it into the same model router running the same FW and Package version. Why can this not be done Mikrotik?
Every other manufacturer has this!
Or atleast add replication and automatic failover support.
He specified same hardware, same firmware version. He has the same problem I have. Two identical routerboards with same OS version, one in production other in standby. He wants something like “export from A, import to B”.
No, the “export” command isn’t enough: it doesn’t copy certificates. And the backup wouldn’t work either, as he would be changing the unit for another.
The “export” is just about right. It just need to copy certificates, and get an option to clean the old configuration. No, just resetting isn’t good enough: it erases the ssh key of the machine, and the export command doesn’t back it up.
Get with it Mikrotik software engineers this is CRITICAL! Restore does not work on different hardware and I am tired of fighting import errors. There has to be an easier way to configure a backup router (same hardware, same firmware version) than TYPING THE WHOLE THING IN BY HAND (and hoping for no typos).
Wow I had no idea backups weren’t compatible across hardware. Seems like a pretty major oversight, I thought I was safe by being able to replace failed hardware and restore from backup to get things running again with minimal interruption.
Some devices seem cross compatible with backups. For instance a netbox5 works fine with a groove. It seems only devices with different switch chips have issues. Like backing up a RB951Ui to a hAP lite completely changes the interface ether order.
Or a PowerBOX to a RB951G. One is a PoE switch and the other is not. This is mostly the issues I found with Backups… Other then wireless interface configs not backing up at all
But a RB2011UiAS to a RB951G will completely keep the first 5 Ethernet ports configs the same.
Having same issue when i upload a backup configuration from Basebox5 to Netbox5, i noticed that the wireless interface of the Netbox is having problem with some client using SXT5. It shows registered but the client cant transmit unless you mac-telnet to the SXT5 and run a ping from it you cant ping the IP on the wireless interface. I check on the configuration set on the Netbox5 looking good, but notice something. The Netbox5 has no wireless protocol option. please can someone help me out. Thank you
